Filling in the Holes
I am working on completing my story on truancy in Durham. If some last minute interviews should work out or new information is found, I have a plan to work it in the story.
My main focus at this point in the writing process is making sure my reporting is thorough. I am reading and rereading my work to look for empty spaces, unclear sentences and vague information.
Throughout my college career I have dreaded proofreading my work for English papers. However, now that my writing is reporting and I need to dedicate more time and attention to proofreading. An essay for a class on poetry is important for educational purposes and personal achievement, but being a reporter means people depending on the information you deliver.
Missing a comma can hurt my credibility and turn away readers. Missing a fact or writing the wrong information could ruin my career and possibly hurt innocent people.
Also, I want the story to be as clear and effective as possible. The common flaws in my writing are grammatical errors and ideas or sentences that are too complex. The complexities in my writing might be great for an English paper, but it is inappropriate for an article.
