This edition of NMEDIAC grew out of 6 hours of discussions and presentations during a special session at the 2003 meetings at American Comparative Literature Association. The session brought together scholars, artists, writers, and filmmakers to discuss the rhetoric and poetics of new media and the interdisciplinary nature of critical throught in the digital age.

The first section of this edition presents papers about new media research, creativity, and authenticity. The section also includes a streaming video of a roundtable discussion by the writers and artists at the panel session. The discussion is moderated by Professor Joseph Tabbi, editor of the Electronic Book Review.

The latter section of this journal offers streaming video and audio presentations by writers Shelley Jackson and Ray Federman, filmmaker Colin Campbell, and digital documentarist, Kristy Kang of the Labyrinth Project at the Annenberg School of the University of Southern California.

Our thanks go to Jonathan Lillie, to Heather Hayton, and our sponsors, NMEDIAC, for making this special edition possible.
