MYANMAR JUNTA HEAD CALLS ON THE
Sittwe, 24th December 01: Secretary One of the State Peace and
Development Council Junta of Myanmar, General Khin Nyunt attended a
pre-Christmas prayer meet and dinner held by the Christian Churches Council of
Myanmar on the 22nd
December, our correspondent quoted a Myanmar Radio news.
At the meet held in the Council of Churches, Union
Avenue in Dagon township in the capital, Khin
Nyunt called on the Christian community in Myanmar
to take active part in consolidating the Union solidarity hand in hand with the ethnic nationalities of Myanmar.
Our correspondent added that, the secretary one never mentioned in the
congregation how to 'consolidate' the union solidarity or how to rehabilitate thousands
of ethnic Christians who were forced to leave their homes and hearths and cross
the border to neighbouring countries as a result of religious persecution.
According to reports in the media of the neighbouring countries
there are hundreds of thousands of Christian ethnic nationals of Myanmar
including the Chins, Karenni, Karen, and Kachin
scattered in India,
Thailand and Bangladesh,
living under harsh living conditions. #
