Yangon, Jan 26:  With ties between the countries on the mend,  India and Myanmar will reopen consulates in two major cities, a state-run newspaper said Saturday, reports AP.
Closed since 1979, consulates will soon resume operations in the Indian city of Kolkata and Myanmar's second largest city, Mandalay, the New Light of Myanmar said.  Relations between the two countries soured after 1988 when the Myanmar military brutally suppressed a pro-democracy movement in the country.  But ties have improved significantly since 2000.  Gen. Maung Aye, the No. 2 power-holder in the ruling military junta, visited India in November 2000, and India's External Affairs Minister Jawant Singh came to Myanmar, also known as Burma, last February. #
