Smuggled Burmese Salt Seized by Bangladesh Coast Guards

 

Dhaka, 20th November 02:  On November 17 Bangladesh Cost Guards eastern zone personnel seized confiscated 200,000 kilogram of smuggled Burmese crude salt from an engine boat from the Sandwip channel, According to local news agencies.

When challenged, the salt carriers could not show any legal document to the Coast Guards in favour of the Burmese salt. The salt was being smuggled into for processing at salt mills across the country, said the CG press release.

The Coast Guards decided to carry a drive against smuggling of Burmese salt to protect the interest of the local salt producers.

Another Coast Guards team also seized 100,000 kilogram of illegal Burmese salt from a boat in Gahira coast and arrested six persons in this connection last week. Later the six arrested were handed over to local police station, the  source said. #
