Burmese Foreign Minister due in Dhaka tomorrow

Dhaka, 1st March 03:  The Burmese Foreign Minister, Win Aung, is due to arrive in Dhaka tomorrow, reports the Independent.

The FM on a brief visit is expected to deliver a formal invitation letter from the Burmese PM General Than Shwe to PM Khaleda Zia to visit Rangoon on a goodwill visit between 19 and 20 March, according to the Burmese ambassador to Bangladesh.

The envoy also added that during the visit the two heads of government would hold a summit meeting and discuss common bilateral, regional and international issues.

The Burmese FM will also meet his Bangladesh counterpart M Morshed Khan.

Bangladesh is set to hold a single country trade fair in Rangoon this month where food festival, fashion show and cultural function will be included as ancillary attractions.

The Burmese premier General Than Shwe on his visit to Dhaka in December 02 extended an invitation to Prime Minister Khaleda.

Meanwhile if the discussions on the proposed Burma  Bangladesh  India Gas Pipeline is also included in the whole gamut of talks, and the gas pipe is brought into operation, Bangladesh will earn a huge amount of foreign currency every year only as service charge and cost of maintenance through the deal, while Rakhine State  where the gas fields are  will be bypassed by both the Burmese junta and the Bangladeshi government, many experts on the issue alleged.  Rakhine State, situated in the western part of Bangladesh is the most neglected state in Burma where there are no modern amenities including electricity or gas even in its capital, Sittwe. #
