Islamic School Demolished in Western Burma

Buthidaung, 26
th March 03: The local junta authority of Buthidaung Township under Rakhine State in the western part of Burma knocked down a Madrasah or Islamic school on 9th March, according to our correspondent.

The madrasah situated at Rwak-nyo-daung village was built close to a Muslim graveyard.  The local Burmese junta officials accusing the structure as illegal since it was constructed in the premises of the graveyard demolished the main structure of the school.  The pulling down was complete by the 15th this month.

The executive committee members of the school board including Rabiullah, son of Muhammad, have been charged with illegal construction of religious schools without the proper permission of the Department of Religious Affairs.

About sixty students were enrolled in the madrasah when it was demolished, concluded the correspondent. #
