Bangladeshi Border Guards send back Burmese castaways

th June 03:  Twenty-one Burmese castaways who drifted to the Bangladesh side of the bay in April were sent back home in the third week of May, according to our correspondent.

All the repatriated Burmese were engaged in fishing when the boat was sunk by a storm during the beginning of this year’s monsoons. 

Most of the fishermen hailed from Mon State in the eastern part of Burma.  They were handed over to the representatives of the Repatriation and Rescue Department at Maungdaw, a Burmese town on the Naaf River opposite Teknaf on Bangladesh side.

Included among the twenty-one persons were U Aye Kyi and U Pho Thaung from Mudung, and San Thein from Thanpyu-zayat, Anaing from Thingangyun of Rangoon, U Keing from Pyinmana#
