Burmese exiles rally for Daw Suu in Bangladesh

Dhaka. 5 July 03: About 60 Arakanese protesters rallied in front of Bangladesh High court today afternoon calling for the immediate release of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi by the Burma ruling military junta.

Holding the portraits of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and changing” free Aung San Suu Kyi right now and go back Win Aung,” protesters called on the international community to pressure against the SPDC Burmese junta unless Suu Kyi was immediately set free.

Many of those demonstrating were members of students group, women group and some children of Burmese refugees in Bangladesh, and wore red headbands decorated with a fighting peacock- the symbol of the student protests of 1988.

“We also strongly condemned the Burma foreign Minister Win Aung today’s trip to Bangladesh because he is also a responsible person of May 30 massacres among the Burma military junta,” a leader of the demonstration group said on the rally. Burma Foreign Minister Win Aung arrives in Dhaka tonight.

“ Suu Kyi is the symbol of our unity of all ethnic nationalities in Burma and should be freed immediately,” said U San Hla Phru, vice president of Arakan League for Democracy (exile), which won 11 seats in 1990 election.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party won 1990 elections in Burma by landslide, but has never been allowed to govern.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been arrested by Burma Military Junta since the May 30 massacre of “Depayin riot” broke out.#
