Two Muslim minor children held at Ann Pass in Burma

Sittwe, 4rd September 03:
Two minor Muslim children were held by Nasaka security forces at the Ann Pass on the Rangoon Sittwe highway on 14th August, sources in the locality said.

The two girls, aged five and one, were being accompanied by Ko Soe Myint (43) and his wife Cho Ma Oo (33), who are Rakhine Buddhists of Sittwe Town.  The children were being taken to their father in Loikaw, the capital of Kayah State from Sittwe, the capital of the western Rakhine State.  The couple were arrested with the children on charges of illegally transporting the children and handed over to the police.

According to the sources, the couple received kyat seventy thousand for carrying the children to their father.  The name of the children’s father is Zubair.   The arrested couple said that on the request of Zubair, a friend of them, they were taking the two minor children to where their father was.

The Muslim citizens of Rakhine State have been barred from travelling to other parts of Burma since the present military junta took power in 1988.  #
