Seven Bangladeshis nabbed in Burma while trying to cross into Thailand

Sittwe, 2 October: 
Seven Bangladeshis were arrested at Myawaddy on the Thai  Burma border while they were trying to cross the border illegally to Mae Sot on Thailand side last week.

It is alleged that the seven Bangladeshi nationals put up at the Western Guesthouse in Rangoon for a couple of days.  There the manager of the guesthouse arranged for the illegal trip of them.

The manager arranged a woman, named Mon May, to arrange the trip.  The Bangladeshi nationals had to pay US dollar 200 each for the arrangement of the trip to the woman while in Rangoon.

The Burmese police and immigration forces on Thursday last arrested the seven Bangladeshi nationals while they were trying to cross the border at Myawaddy point, while the woman was able to make the escape.

Sources in the police said that the seven persons have confessed that they were encouraged to go to Southeast Asian countries via Burma by a group of friends in Dhaka, Bangladesh, who have in previous occasions sent a number of Bangladeshi citizens to Malaysia and Thailand through the route.  #
