Dhaka, March 10: The ambassador of Burma to Bangladesh U Thane Myint called on Bangladesh Home Minister Altaf Hossian Chowdhury at his office of Dhaka yesterday.

Strengthening of existing ties between the two countries through further development of the trade and commerce and exchange of political, cultural, economic and educational delegation was emphasized during the meeting held in a very friendly and cordial atmosphere, a Home Ministry press release said.

According to today The independent, the Bangladesh Home Minister explained to the Burmese envoy about the "Look East" foreign policy of Bangladesh government and the steps already taken to further expand bilateral and multilateral ties all over the world.

Discussion were held during the meeting on increasing collaboration between Bangladesh Rifles and the Burma Border security Forces Nasaka in checking drug trafficking, arms smuggling, trafficking of women and children, repatriation of each other's nationals held as prisoners in both countries, illegal fishing within the territorial waters and sea.

The Burmese envoy expressed his eagerness about setting up a language school in Bangladesh.
