Bangladesh Police seize contraceptive pills and injections worth TK half million while smuggling out to Burma.

 

Cox’sbazar, March 20: Bangladesh police has seized birth control pills and injections of value more than taka 6 lacks.

 

The contraceptive materials were carried by a bus bound to Burma  border from Cox’sbazar for smuggled out , it was learned.

 

Acting on a tip given by a local Bangladeshi, police searched all the vehicles bound to Burma border and said birth control materials were seized.

 

According to police sources, the seized materials were packed into more than 20,000 small consignments and present market value is about Taka 6,30,000.

 

The traffickers of both the countries are involved in smuggling of contraceptive pills and materials along with other life saving medicines from Bangladesh to Burma, which is suffering from severe shortage of medicines.

 

The owner of smuggle goods was known to be Mahamad Yunus(32), a resident of Teknaf town , opposite to Maung Daw, a Burmese town.  

 

 It is further learnt that in the border province Arakan has been suffering from acute shortage of medicines, supply of medicines by the military government also in a very miserable quantity. The people of Arakan have to depend on  smuggle medicines since of neighboring countries, Bangladesh and India. They also have to buy Chinese drugs which is bit cheaper than those of India, says the source.#
