A Burmese minor girl student in Bangladesh jail without trial



Cox’sbazar, June 14: A minor Arakanese girl student continues to be held in a Bangladeshi jail without being produced before the court. The girl, about 12 years old, was arrested along with three other Burmese citizens, according to our reporter.


The girl, known as Loon Thon Ma (12), was arrested along with three other relatives while coming from Burma to Bangladesh. According to a relative, the four were visiting their relatives at Cox’sbazar during school holidays during the Sangran water festival.


Loon Thoon Ma is a student of Buthidong Junior High School, came to Bangladesh to visit her relatives in Bangladesh, now in Cox’sbazar jail would not be attend the school, which is now reopened. 


“They are still in the Cox’sbazar jail. They were arrested on March 15th. Till now they have never been produced before the court,” one of her relative said, adding that at least four times they were brought out of the jail in the name of producing to the court, but later they were taken back to jail again. No suit has been lodged against them.


Among the three arrested is a one and a half year old baby named Wan Wan Shit, now badly suffering from measles, sources said.


According to our reporter, relatives and guardians are passing their days in great worry about the prisoners’ future. #
