Oman defeats Burma in Hockey


Dhaka, October 7: Burma lost to Oman with one goal to nil in a hockey game at the under-twenty-one five nation hockey tournament. Burma will have to compete again with Oman for the third position.


The under twenty-one five nation hockey tournament, was organised by Bangladesh Hockey Federation, which started on the 30th of September. In the first game of the tournament Burma lost with three goals to nil to the host, Bangladesh. In the second game, Burma lost to India 7 - 0. Burma won the third game over Afghanistan, 5 - 1.  The fourth game that Burma played at 9 am on the 6th of October, it lost to Oman because of an own goal.


“We played well today. We were expected to give more goals away. I think we did well with only one goal,” says U Myo Win (a) Ko Pout, the spokesperson for Burma’s team.


Bangladesh first invited Iran to participate, but Iran could not come and India came in as the replacement to IranIndia, Burma, Afghanistan, Oman and Bangladesh competed in the tournament.  The final match today will see India and Bangladesh competing for the championship.


In Burma’s winning match against Afghanistan, Tun Tun Win (7) scored his hat-trick goal in the 16th minute of the game, while at the 21st minute Aung Naing Win (3)scored a goal, followed by a goal by Tun Tun Oo (10) 6 minutes later, to win five goals to one. However, the Burmese team has to go home today evening after having lost more games than they have won.
