Southeast Command Re-equipped Arms to Army Veterans

Burmese Army Southeast Command based in Moulmein (Mawlamyaine), the capital of Mon State decided to re-equipped arms to the army personals of veteran soldiers after holding a meeting with a Township Burma (Army) Veteran Association (BVA), according a source close to an army veteran.

 

At about 10: 00 of May 23, the Commander of Southeast Command, Major General Thura Myint Aung held a meeting with 40 members of Thanpyuzayart Township BVA at his command

 

“The Commander told the members of the Association need to hold arm and take responsibility for security in township area and in the country as a whole,” the source said.

 

Major General Thura Myint Aung decided to transform the association into two battalions under the command of South-East Command.

 

According the source, Southeast Command planned to held a meeting again and it will adopt the structure of the regiment to BVA leaders. 

 

In the town, about 3:00 p.m, the veteran soldiers and commanders including the aged people involved in military training, running around the town’s wards and singing the military songs.

 

Such military exercises by the veterans have taken some days even before the official meeting in South-East command, said the source.  

 

Colonel Khin Maung Zee of Township commander and Township Peace and Development Council hold meeting with this BVA members and ordered to them to involve in the exercise. 

 

There has been some concerns for security among the Burmese Army’s commanders after May 7 bomb blast .
