Immigrants working in Thailand from neighboring countries are having chance to renew work permits for one more year this month, according to the workers.

The work permits are being renewed between June 1 to 30.

“Getting work permit one year is better than without having a chance to do anything. The rights of the worker in this time is not different from last year,” said U Myint Wei, a member of the Thai Action Committee for Democracy in Burma (TACDB).

Workers having work permits will get health care service and they can work with any employers. If they are not satisfied with employers, they could go to court.

“By holding work permit, there is no need to afraid of being arrested by police. One can go around freely in restricted working areas,” said Ma Aye Myint, a factory worker from Mahachai, Thailand.

Renewing work permit would cost 3900 baht for a year. "As we are paying every year for work permit, we could not even go back home", she added

Thai Labor Ministry is issuing work permits to workers only who had work permits last year. The ministry would not issue work permits for new comers.

Many Burmese migrants flooded into Thailand after hearing Thai government is issuing work permits, according to reliable sources from Thai-Burma border.

Hundreds of Burmese migrants are waiting in Three Pagoda Pass border for entering Thailand.
