Lightning kills a Man in Pegu

Funeral of a man who was killed by lightning was held by his family and relatives in Pegu today, said by a local Town resident.

 

Nai Htoo, 60 years old farmer, was hit by lightning while he was transplanting the paddy with his grandsons and sons in his farm, east of Pegu after lightning hit open rice field on July 8’s morning.

 

“He is tranplanting in the middle of other people and was unluckily hit,” according to a member of his family.

 

Lightning strike him in Pegu farm where a Mon famous warrior, Samone Surk fought with an 7 feets high Indian warrior in the Mon history of 10th Century A.D and many people have been striked in the past accordingly to a Buddhist monk in the area.

 

“According to our Buddhism belief, the man who was hit by lightning is the one who against the ‘Rot Ma Soon’ which means Five Kinds of Gratitude - Buddha, Buddha teaching, Buddhist monk, parent and teacher,” an Abbot from Pegu Town said.

 

“In my experinec he is a good man when he is in this life. But I don’t know what he did wrong in his past life,” the Abbot added.

 

Normally, in Pegu Town, the lightning in the past hit to the open paddy farms and dangerous lightning always occurs at the beginning of rainy season (in June and July) and at the end of the season (in September and October). 

 

Nearby Pegu town, there are a large paddy fields with thousands acres of lands.  Big percentages of the Town residents and local villagers are also paddy growing farmers. 

 

Pegu was the capital of old Mon kingdoms during 10th and 16th Century A.D, where the Mon people practiced Buddhism and upgraded their civilization.
