A seven month-old baby killed and two children wounded by artillery shell

A mother took to Palaing Japan hospital at about 5: 30 P. M. (Thai time) to have treatment for her wounds and her seven months old baby is also killed after motor shells drop in her home yesterday.

 

Plaing Japan village is a literally - Japanese Well in Three Pagoda Pass Township in Karen State, Thai-Burma border.

 

The baby was killed in a spot at the home in Mae Sali village about 25 miles west from Three Pagoda Pass, and another two children also wounded at about 2:00 PM with the motor shells according to the victim niece.

 

The bullet was from unknown armed troop that the niece did not know and the victim could not hear anything to reply the questions due to serious wounds.

 

Baby mother, Naw Aye Myit, 26 years, wounded in her net, hand, and knees have been taking treatment.

 

According to local people there were a couple days fighting between Burmese Army Infantry Battalion No.18 and Kanren National Liberation Army, near the victim village.

 

Two Burmese soldiers, and the victim’s village headmen died by KNLA landmines, according to a source close to Burmese authorities.

 

Karen National Union General Secretary, Phado Mahn Shar admitted that area is KNU area and but he did not give confirmed about the event.

 

News Mon State Party source said there were three Burmese troop from, Battalion No.18, No.38 and LIB No. 308 lunch military operations against ethnic armed groups and KNLA also lunched guerilla warfare in the area.
