SALES of agricultural machinery have swollen in the past few weeks as the approach of the monsoon heralds the beginning of the paddy and crop-growing season, industrial sources at Yangon’s Bayintnaung commodity and agro-based machinery wholesale complex said last week. “Sales of agricultural machinery and spare parts have increased by about 40 per cent since the last week of April,” said U Aung Myint, the owner of the Aung Myittar shop, which sells agricultural machinery and tools.

 
THE Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is providing US$9 million to the National Malaria Control Program this month to support its activities to control the disease.
 
COMMENTARIES published recently in state-owned newspapers have urged the National League for Democracy to cooperate with the government for the sake of a smooth democratic transition. A commentary in Myanma Alin on June 1 called on the NLD and other political forces to cooperate with the government by placing the national interest first.
 

THE Minister of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs, Brigadier-General Thein Zaw, told an ICT conference at MICT Park on May 17 that the ministry was striving to provide better telecom- munications infrastructure.

     

QATAR Airways, which in January became the first Middle Eastern carrier to fly to Myanmar, opened a ticketing and administration office on the second floor of the Sakura Tower on June 1.

MYANMAR and Egypt plan to increase economic and technical cooperation as a part of plan to expand bilateral relations, said the Egyptian ambassador, Mr Mohamed Minessy.
