NUPA Vice President Passes Away

 

Vice President of National United Party of Arakan (NUPA) and veteran politician of Arakan, Oo Ba Soe Aung, died yesterday at Cox’sbazar general hospital in Bangladesh aged 58.

 

Doctors declared him dead at 4:15 pm after all medical treatment had been exhausted. Oo Ba Soe Aung was suffering from the symptoms of paralysis, and died as a result of his disease.

 

Oo Ba Soe Aung was a native of Mrauk Oo, the ancient city of Arakan and had been active in the Arakanese nationalist movement since Burma's independence in

1948.

 

He was also a founder of the Arakan National liberation Party (ANLP) and served in the ANLP as General Secretary for many years.

 

In 1994, a number of Arakanese revolutionary parties including ANLP, Arakan Communist Party (ACP), Tribal National Party (TNP) and Arakan Army, formed an umbrella organization for the sake of national unity, led by the late Bo Raza, that became NUPA.  Bo Raza was the first General Secretary for NUPA.

 

In 2000, NUPA elected him Vice President and he served this office until he died.

 

He left behind his beloved wife, Ma Khain Nu and his six year old daughter, Pru Pru, who will mourn him. #
