Burmese Army Robs House in Arakan

Two soldiers from the Burmese army along with two local people robbed a house in Buthidaung Township on 22 December, taking a large amount of cash from the house, stated a police report. The incident took place in a village of Wet Makya under Thigan Guason Village Tract in Buthidaung Township, 80 miles north of the state capital Akyab.   A police source said four people, two of whom were army personnel, entered a house belonging to Mr. Mamudsedi, son of Nawbi Husong, around 2 p.m. and tied up Mr. Mamusedi inside the house. The dacoits then took 150,000 kyats from the house.   After the incident, the villager filed a complaint about the robbery at the police station near the village. The township police department caught the four culprits red-handed and recovered the money a day after the crime took place.   The two army personnel who were involved are a sergeant and a private, from Light Infantry Battalion 551 based in Buthidaung, while the other two culprits are local civilians.
