Plan overcomes Burma hurdle

The European Union and Association of Southeast Asian Nations approved a
broad programme for future co-operation delayed two years by a dispute over
Asean member state Burma's human rights record.

The "New Dynamic in EU-Asean Relations" was formally approved by the blocs'
Joint Co-operation Committee, said EU ambassador to Thailand, Michel

The wide-ranging programme covers trade, economic and industrial
co-operation as well as initiatives on drugs and the environment.

Trade clauses include co-operation over intellectual property rights and
bloc-to-bloc tariffs.
