We have different formats and everything works.
Question is: should we take the risk of moving to a common format,
loosing time, authors and credibility?

You're right, we haven't converted a single HOWTO yet.
But we have a workgroup which is weighting pro & cons (and writing
scripts for test purposes) before moving to docbook.
And if one day we move to something different from linuxdoc for HOWTOs,
we want :
- scripts for a flawless conversion by each author (they didn't ask for a
new format, so let's make the change easy)
- a format which will be used by other documentation project as well.
DocBook is a good candidate, I previously discussed it with K DP leader
and they did choose DocBook too.
Indexation to design a knowledge base is also very important for us, it
could be done with DocBook.
What else should we choose?
