10/11 Another Community Service Opportunity: Carnivore Preservation Trust will be October 28th on Saturday morning. There will be a pickup at the ATM in front of Davis. Talk to Regina about being involved in a unique opportunity to be around wild, caged animals.
Meeting/Social for 10/3 -
reservations for 7:00pm on Tuesday, October 3, 2000
at 35 Chinese. We all ate at 35 Chinese last semester and had a blast.
I have two things to ask of you before you come though:
1. If you are definitely coming please email Jay
by Sunday. He needs to give them a number of how many on Monday.
2. YOU MUST BRING TEN DOLLARS IN CASH - Last year some of us paid in cash,
check , and credit card. This makes it very hard because they had to divide
up the bill. If you bring cash we can get one ticket and everything will work
out nicely.
There are two ATM's around that area, there is an ATM at the CCB in University
Square and there is a Wachovia ATM in Granville Towers West in case you need
to get money there. The Buffet is about $7 with a college
I.D. and you will need to leave a tip.
9/25/00 Meeting Notes OUR NEW HOME - Starting the week after next, our meetings will be held in Gardner 08. That is a large lecture room in the basement of Gardner Hall. For those that drive, there are parking lots all over the place, so it should actually be easier than the Union
LSAT PREP TEST - Several things here: FIRST, we are no longer taking money for this. WE ARE ONLY SIMULATING CONDITIONS!!! Copyright, blah, blah, blah... We are signing people up in the pit and telling them to use either the prep test in the back of the registration book or go to the Learning Center (Phillips Annex) to make a copy of The Sample Test. So, if you or someone you know is interested in taking it, tell them to bring a test with them, and be at Hamilton 100 by 2pm, on Sunday. SECOND, Jay will be emailing out a proctor sign up sheet sometime today. For those that signed up to proctor, look at the set up and then email him back and let him know what hour you want to work.
MOCK TRIAL - Jay has secured a real judge for us for our Mock Trial on October 26. The judge is a carolina alum, and a really cool guy. This should be a lot of fun!! I will be getting the case today, and I will email out assignments this weekend (probably Friday). If you previously signed up and no longer want to do it, please email me by Thursday night and tell me to remove you from the interest list.
NEXT WEEKS MEETING - Is scheduled to be at Chinese 35. We will meet there at 7pm. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING 10 DOLLARS IN CASH TO PAY FOR YOUR MEAL!!! The guy was a little ticked with us last time, since some people had to use credit cards. Its just easier to bring ten in cash, so that it can all go on one bill. If for some reason we cannot go to Chinese 35, the contingency plan is to meet by Silent Sam (in the quad) at 7pm, go over any meeting details, and then those that want to go to McAllisters to eat and do interviews and (get social credit!), may do so.
9/19/00 Meeting Notes In exchnage for providing jurors for the Law School Mock Trials (for which you can earn CS hours), they are going to provide us with a NITA case for our Mock Trial. It will be a Felony Murder case, so it should be exciting. We get pretty much everything you will need, so a lot of work is already done. I will have this in about a week, so the teams will probably be assigned by next week's meeting.
FUNDRAISING - As a brother and/or pledge of this fraternity, you are required to participate in a fraternity fundraiser. Brothers, you said you did not like the raffle, so we got this football deal instead. Free food, a free tshirt, and good money for the frat, for basically just telling people where their seats are and watching the game. Now, though, we still need people to sign up for the Marshall game this weekend and NCState game on October 14. If you are available and have not signed up for a fundraiser already, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE contact JAY ASAP. If we do not do well with this football contract, it could mean the ressurection of the dreaded raffle
Informal - DATE CHANGE!!! The Informal will now be on Friday, November 10th, at the very nice Sheraton Hotel (formerly the Omni), which is right at the 15/501/Franklin Street split. The more people that come the cheaper it will be.
Pit
Sits -
Here are the times still open for Pit Sits. We need as many people as we can
to Pit Sit. Pit Sitting is painless. You just sit there for an hour in the
Pit, taking in the great Carolina Spirit that follows through the Pit. Pledges,
our Brothers usually love to do this. You will have a sign up sheet for the
Practice LSAT and you will also be taking up money for the exams. This will
count for a Fundraiser and Community Service. Two birds with one stone how
much better can it get.
Schedule for Pit sits
9/15/00
Jenni Browning (Pre-Law Advisor) and Karen James (Track 60 Advisor) will be
holding a Pre-Law Information session. The Session will be held on Tuesday,
September 19, 2000 at 5:30pm in Union Room 210.
This should be a very informative session especially for underclassmen who
have questions as well as upperclassmen. Mrs. Browning and Mrs. James will
also be speakers at our September 26th meeting in case any of you can't make
the Information Session this coming Tuesday.
9/13/00 Meeting Notes - Seagrum Smith wants to know if anyone is interested in being a committee chair or pledgemaster. Email her if you are. All position apps are due by Friday at 6 p.m.
Only Seniors can declare Semi-Inactive status (no meetings). For the sake of fairness to our members that do make sacrifices to attend meetings, this is the necessary solution.
Semester Awards We will choose an outstanding brother and pledge at the end of the semester, and their dues will be paid for next semester. By outstanding, we will consider attendance, visibility to your brothers and pledges, and a genuine interest and activity in the fraternity and its functions.
Community Service This semester we are trying to make it easier on you. We are keeping Ronald McDonald house, but that is basically the only one where you have to go somewhere. We are concentrating on giving back to the community this semester. We plan to do this with a Can Food drive in October and a Book Drive for a local HS in November. Regina has the details on how much each book/can count for, etc. These will be further detailed on the website as time approaches. There is also another commserv activity available for this weekend. Contact Regina for more info!
Public Relations This semester we will work on building our alumni network, and Intern/Extern Dbase. If you see an internship opportunity in a paper or know of someone who is hiring, be sure to let Barnett or another PR committe member know about it!
Treasurers
Report
Twenty dollar brother dues and any past fines must be paid to Jay by Sept.
26. A detailed fine list will be added to the website next week. Please do
not write bad checks. If you do, you will be charged the return fee. If for
some reason you cannot pay, please make arrangements with Jay.
We have a new Fundraising System this semester. We have been hired to usher
football games at Kenan this semester. Other FR opportunities also include
posting flyers for Kaplan and the Learning Center LSAT Prep Tests. You are
required to participate in PAD Fundraising! To choose your FR, contact Jay.
You can also sign up at the next meeting, but be aware that you will be competing
for spaces. If you are not signed up for at least one event by next Tuesday,
we will assign you one!
Law Symposium Law Symposium will be held on Saturday, November 4, in Manning 209. There are three panels. From 10-12, DA Carl Foxx and the Johnston County DA. From 12:30-2:30, Reps from the CIA and FBI. From 3-5, Dean Crisp from Carolina Law and Law Students. You are required to attend at least two out of the three boards. In order to ensure that there are people there for each board, we have a sign up book in which you must sign up for one board that you will definitely attend. You may then choose your other panel. You are by all means invited to attend all three! That is how you will benefit the most from this event. If you were not there tonight, email me and let me know what board you want to sign up for or else get the book next week. If you are not on one by next Tuesday, we will put you on one.
Mock Trial We will be holding our first Mock Trial on October 26th, 7pm, at the Chapel Hill Courthouse. A real judge will hopefully be presiding over the case, which will likely be constitutional in nature. We would like everyone to get involved in this as it should be an education and fun experience. I have the sign up sheet, so if you are interested, email me and let me know your preference (in descending order) for prosecution, defense, witnesses, or jury.
LSAT Prep Test Vote The frat brothers voted tonight to participate in a Mock LSAT to be held in conjunction with the Learning Center on October 1. Details to come!
8/24/00 We

Along with some of our regulars such as helping out at Ronald McDonald House and UNC-CH's Law School Exploration Day, we also plan to work with Habitat for Humanity. In addition, PAD will also conduct a canned food drive in October and a book drive in November. Please contact Regina Blanding for further information.
