stopped at the 751 bridge sometime between 1330 and 1400. pretty hot so
wasnt' sure there would be much noteworthy. many great egrets, great
blue herons, and cormorants. spotted some peeps on the shore across the
water but too far to identify. a few killdeer were also present.
a small flock of woods ducks and mallards were swimming on the near
shore. all observations were on the left side, going out 751 from 54
toward 64. (east and west only confuse me).
i noticed something large soaring above the water and realized it was an
immature, possibly subadult bald eagle. however, there was something
quite strange about it. there was a radio transmitter implanted on it's
back. does anyone know if any of the jordan lake eagles would have this
and if not who i would notify that one was seen. it banked right over my
head so i was able to see the transmitter pretty well. as it was
soaring over the water on the side where most of the egrets are i
noticed the sun glinting off something metallic on it's back. as it
went over my head it looked just like a transmitter. too weird. later
two adult eagles were on a stump feeding and drinking. great looks.
i scanned the shore after the eagles flew off to the treetops and
noticed something different. a pair of avocets had come in. behind
them was a lone yellowlegs. a few swallows were out over the water. by
then i was beginning to melt so gave up and went home.
i'm hopeful someone out there will have info on the weird eagle with the
transmitter.
as jack peachy says, don't forget to look up.
