Henderson County/Yellow-crowned Night Heron

Folks:
Ron Selvey found a first year Yellow-crowned Night Heron near the
Glover Street entrance in Jackson Park this AM. The bird had an all black
bill, very fine, white ticking on the wings and back, and the feet extended
completely beyond the tail in flight. You could see light feathers
beginning to appear on the top of the head.
Directions:When approaching the Glover Street gate in the rear of
Jackson Park, follow the fence line down the hill to the water filled ditch.
Walk along the ditch, and check the trees on the other side of the ditch.
The bird was sitting in a leafless tree, just over the ditch this AM. He
flew around and interacted with a Green Heron on several occasions.
