Yesterday and again today Vaughn Morrison had a lone female white winged
crossbill munching sunflower seeds at his feeder in Ashe Cnty, between Todd
and West Jefferson. The bird appeared yesterday about 4:15pm and was still
there when Betty and I arrived to see it at 5:15pm (we finally got an easy
one after days of searching on Grandfather mountain in vain!). The bird was
at his feeder again this morning, but then the Morrisons were away from home
most of the day and have not seen the bird since their recent return home
this afternoon. Vaughn, who does not subscribe to carolinabirds, said he'd
let me know if he sees it again, and I'll let you know. If you wish to call
Vaughn: 336-877-8795.
