Jim and Cbirds,
Regarding the responses about the atlas question, in a nutshell I was told the
following:
David Lee of the NC Museum of Natural Science organized the atlas project.
Data collection was to take place 1988 through 1992. Several people who
collected data here in the mountains told me they did it for a while and then
most of them stopped for various reasons. Some turned in their data, but
never heard any more about it. It seems the book was never published. No one
provided a reason why. No one in the mountains here seems to know why and
only two people from the piedmont responded at all. I would have thought you
folks down there closer to the center of the action would know more about it.
Maybe it was a political thing, maybe it was money, I don't know. In any
event, the original plan was to do it every 10 years, which would be now. I
guess it isn't happening unless CBC or some other entity decides to pick it
up.
