While camping and visiting relatives up in Grayson Highlands, near Mouth of
Wilson, VA, I was able to do some wildlife watching, though the birding was
mostly casual and not very thorough. Here are some of the highlights that
y'all might be interested in:
Barred Owl
Common Raven
Wild Turkey
DE Junco
Cedar Waxwing
Black-throated Green Warbler-many
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Blue-headed Vireo-many
Field Sparrow
Vesper Sparrow-numerous on Massie Gap
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Herps:
Plethedon jordanii metcalfi
Plethedon cinereus
Eurycea cirrigera
Desmognathus ochrophaeus
Desmognathus monticola
Desmognathus quadramaculatus
Natrix sipedon
Leps:
Mourning Cloak
Tiger Swallowtail
Eastern Tailed-Blue
Great Spangled Frittilary
Common Woodnymph
American Copper
Clouded Sulpher
Silver-spotted Skipper
Also had Red Squirrels and numerous howling Coyotes in the night.
