Hilton Pond 01/22/03 (Space Shuttle Disaster)

In honor of the men and women who perished in today's space shuttle disaster, the current installment of "This Week at Hilton Pond" is a bit different than usual. The photo essay for the long "week" of 22-31 January 2003 is a tribute to the crew of Columbia, but there's still a connection to nature--as you can see at http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek030122.html .

As always, there's a list of birds banded during the period, plus a mug shot of a locally uncommon Fox Sparrow. There's also another amazing list of banded birds that returned this week to Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History--including what may be our oldest bird ever.

Please forward this message to others who are interested in nature and birds. Anyone can get a free weekly reminder for "This Week at Hilton Pond" by sending a blank e-mail to mailto:info@hiltonpond.org with SUBSCRIBE in the subject line.

Happy Nature Watching,

BILL
