Jordan Lake, etc.

I set out early from Fayetteville this morning and visited Horton's Pond
before heading to Ebenezer Church point on Jordan Lake. There I ran into
Josh Rose and two of his birding buddies. The best birds at Ebenezer were
a bald eagle, two yellow-bellied sapsuckers, and a swarm of yellow-rumped
warblers. Leaving Ebenezer, we made a stop at the waste treatment ponds
and turned up a bluebird--no ducks.

Josh and his crew headed for Old Hope Valley Farm road and I headed east
toward Lake Wheeler. There I found three separate clusters of ruddy ducks
and saw a flock of Canada geese fly over. Heading toward home, I stopped
at Greenview Pond and saw the flock of green-winged teal that have
apparently settled in there. The flock appeared to number 20-30. There
were also a several apparent mallards (didn't get a good look) and a
possible pied-billed grebe (glimpsed only). At 1010 pond I drew a complete
blank again.

On my way home I stopped at a farm pond on Rte. 55 just north of Angier.
There I found a surprisingly large raft of ring-necked ducks and some
dabblers. Four of the dabblers were gadwalls, two drakes and two hens.
