ducks

have been reading the many reports of ducks on area ponds and have been out
to observe the "gravel pit" pond which now has coots, Am. Widgeon,
ring-necked duck, mallards, pied billed grebes and ruddy ducks. Also have
about 20 Killdeer.
I do have a question: my understanding is that after the chicks are born, in
general, the males leave, have their molt, and then move on. On "my" pond,
it seems that the ducks pair up into male and female pairs. When ducks get
back together on the area lakes, do they again match up into pairs? Are
these the pairings that will carry over into the spring. Do Widgeons and
ring-necked ducks mate for life? or are they just in loose groups of males
and females. TIA for the info.

Saw a small kettle of 4 BVs and 2 TVs today but I forget where I was.
Senior moment.
I have not seen any tagged vultures.
