I would recommend the Cape Pines Motel in Buxton, NC. I stayed there
once, just before the 1998 spring NAMC. The Cape Pines is owned and
operated by birders, and has a hummingbird feeder out front which
occasionally brings in a customer in the winter. Buxton is where Cape
Point is located, is about half an hour's drive south of Pea and Bodie
Islands and Oregon Inlet, and is even closer to Hatteras and the ferry to
Okracoke; from Okracoke, you can catch another ferry to Swan Quarter,
which is close to Mattamuskeet. Reserve a room early though: because Cape
Point is so close to Buxton, the motels often fill up with fishermen
heading out to the Point...
Good luck,
Josh
