I apologize DEEPLY for the lateness of this posting, but work and
technical glitches have conspired to keep me from my personal email for
the last week.
In any case, last Friday (26. Nov 1999), my father Hartsell and I birded
the causeway at Mattamuskeet. We did not have nearly the warbler
success that Gary Felton found there, but we did find a clearly marked
and easily observable LARK SPARROW on the East side of the causeway,
about 150-200 yards S. of the headquarters entrance road, about 20 feet
high in some brambles. It was a state bird for me and salvaged an
otherwise pretty poor day of birding, to be frank.
Happy Birding,
-Sandy
