Susan Campbell and others,
This morning (Sunday) I was fortunate enough to observe the Calliope
Hummingbird on three separate visits to the feeder behind Charles and Judy
Webb's home in Greer, SC. The hummingbird seems to be coming on a regular
periodic visit. Judy Webb has heard that Susan Campbell has received some
negative comment about posting their phone number to the web. Mrs. Webb
asked that I let Susan know that her posting stipulating "only a phone
number and to call in advance" was as she desired. The Webbs DO NOT want
their ADDRESS posted so that they may control when visitors arrive. It is
necessary to view the feeder from inside their home for best view. The
Webbs should be commended for their gracious patience and hospitality in
opening their home to interested birders. I would suggest that whoever at
the CBC is responsible for sending the special "appreciation note" that was
recently given to the family who hosted the Sandhill Crane in Shelby would
also commend the Webb household. Accepting numerous phone calls and
strangers into your home over a period of days to weeks is not to be taken
lightly.
Good Birding to all this Holiday Season,
Stephen Harris
