schedule a time to go and see this bird.
An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was discovered today 12-12 at the north end of Pea

perched on the building and flycatching in the surrounding weeds. This
sighting follows one from only a few miles north about a month ago.
A light phase ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK has been seen for about 10 days at Alligator
River NWR in eastern N.C. This bird should be looked for over the fields
adjacent to Milltail Rd. south of Hwy 64 at the refuge.
SHORT -EARED OWLS have been seen several times over the Bodie Island marshes
on the Outer Banks. Up to 3 birds were seen 12-12 exactly 3.3 miles south of
the Whalebone Junction on Hwy 12.
N. SAW WHET OWL reports continue to come in from throughout the Carolinas.
Birds have been found in SC in Rock Hill, Columbia, and Charleston; and from
Albemarle and Cape Carteret in NC. Be sure to check out excited flocks of
woodland birds or play a tape of the owl's call, if so inclined , to try and
see one of these elusive owls.
SNOW BUNTINGS have been seen at Fort Fisher in NC (between the 1st and 2nd
crossover over the dunes) and at Rachel Carson Sactuary (Bird Shoal) south of
Beaufort, NC.
WHITE-WINGED DOVES have been reported from Morehead City, NC; Atlantic, NC;
and the Fort Fisher ferry terminal recently. The Atlantic bird was coming to
a feeder and may still be present. Contact John Fussell at
<jfuss@bmd.clis.com> for more information.
One to two LECONTE'S SPARROWS were seen 12-8 at Radio Island near Beaufort,
NC. Contact John Fussell at <jfuss@bmd.clis.com> for directions.
Up to 5 SANDHILL CRANES were seen at Donnelly WMA in SC on 12-11. The birds
were flying over the ponds behind the lodge there.
