I haven't noticed Peregrine Falcon on anyone else's Huntington Beach
State Park list this season, yet yesterday I observed one in the same
location where I observed one 3 weeks ago. Although I know a Peregrine
isn't the rarity it once was, since this bird is probably consistently
observable in a known spot and I think I can give exact directions to
it, I will: Stand at the very base of the south jetty, by the plover
pen, and look in a direction that I believe to be about due north (but
don't take my sense of direction too seriously). For orientation, scope
completely across the marsh toward the buildings along Bus-17 in
Murrell's Inlet. Find the backside of two restaurants; then scope in
the direction of the houses to your right from there. As I saw the bird
yesterday it was directly in line with a cube-shaped 3 story mansion
with columns front and back and a cupola on top (you can't miss it).
The Peregrine perches near the close edge of the marsh in what appear to
be some low shrubs. It's an adult and its white breast stands out well.
You can just identify it at 20x but higher power is desirable for a good
view.
