Skuas, alcids and other pelagic seabirds in 2000

Dear Seabirders,

1999 was an excellent year for our pelagic trips from North Carolina and
Virginia, and we are already looking forward to next year=92s trips, which
begin in mid-January. In 2000 we are offering six winter pelagic trips,
with trips from Virginia Beach, VA on January 15(16), 22(23), and
February 12(13); a trip from Wanchese, NC (Oregon Inlet) on February
5(6); and a trip from Hatteras, NC on February 19(20). These trips are
all scheduled for Saturdays with Sunday weather dates. These ventures
offer an excellent opportunity to search for Great Skua, Dovekie,
Razorbill, Atlantic Puffin, Black-legged Kittiwake, Northern Fulmar and
other northern seabirds. They may even produce the occasional
mega-rarity like this February=92s Black-browed Albatross at the Norfolk
Canyon off Virginia Beach (see North American Birds 53:228-231). For
more information about these winter trips, including bird lists from
twenty-nine previous trips, visit our site on the web at
http://www.patteson.com, where we also have a schedule of our spring and
summer trips in 2000, as well as dozens of high quality images of
seabirds that you can=92t find in all of the books put together. I should
also mention that we are already receiving reservations for spring trips
in 2000. In 1999, all of our trips in late May were fully booked before
the end of February. Over the next few weeks, I plan to add the rest of
1999=92s trip lists to our website and I hope to add some new images and
information as well. In the meantime, best wishes for the holiday
season and we hope to see many of you on next year=92s trips.
