BIRDS @ DONNELLY AND BEAR ISLAND SC WMA'S



Went to the subj places yesterday looking for the Sandhill Cranes and Red
Breasted Nuthatches that had been reported on this medium.  Didn't find
either of them but had a surprisingly good bird day given the weather so
thought I would pass the results on.  No lifers for me but had a good time
nonetheless.
Oh, I stopped counting after 25 for some species.

Common Grackle - No count
Boat Tailed Grackle -13/25+
TV-7/25+ (Big Feast going on at Bear)

American Crow - 4/8
Fish Crow - 3/16

Great Egret - 25+/25+
Snowy Egret - 12/7
Great Blue Heron - 15/4
Little Blue Heron - 1/1
DC Cormorant - 25+/6
N. Mockingbird - 4/2
Belted Kingfisher - 4/6
Northern Harrier - 1/1
Red Winged Blackbirds - 25+/25+
Yellow Rumped/Myrtle Warbler - 25+/5
Eastern Bluebird - 3/19 (16 were sitting side by side on a wire like
swallows)

Red Breasted Merganser - 3 (That's what they were - looked at em for 15
minutes via scope/w book in hand)

Carolina Chickadee - 6
Tufted Titmouse - 2

TUNDRA SWANS - 28 (B-U-TEE-FUL)
AMERICAN AVOCETS - 5 (Have seen them here for the last 3 years)
Bufflehead - 7
Ruddy - 6
Hoodies - 4 (1 male)
White Ibis - 25+
Bald Eagle - 2 (Mary's Pond nesters)
Forster's Tern - 11
Caspian Tern - 7
Royal Tern - 4
Mottled Duck - 4
Black Duck - 2
Mallard - 3
Starlings - 25+
Brown Headed Nuthatch - 2 (Observation area)
American Coots - 25+
Common Moorhen - 13
Eurasian Collared Doves - 2
Mourning Dove - 1
Blue Jay - 1
Loggerhead Shrike - 1

Not bad for a 3 hour trip.  Good birding and happy holidays everyone.
