Hello again,
Yesterday I asked about a flock of ~45 finch size yellow-green birds I saw
on top of Looking Glass in the Pisgah National Forest. I have received
several answers but no consensus. I know for sure they were not waxwings
(I know that species well) and not grosbeaks (too small). Field guides show
streaking on Pine Siskins and they are more of a brownish color. These
birds weren't streaky and not brown. It was very good morning light so the
color of the plumage was vivid.
The best suggestion was Pine Warbler. Warbler felt right to me but the
flock behavior threw me. Ah, but the Peterson Guide to Warblers says
"quite gregarious in winter" and the plate matches the coloration, so I'm
going with Pine Warblers!
