On the subject of the Broad-wingeds in Conway, let me add my two cents. My
husband came home today and told me about a sighting he had had on the way
home from work today. He described, with convincing details, a Broad-winged
Hawk. While my husband is not the birder in the family, he has accompanied
me to many hawk-watchs. He knows his hawks well enough to spot and name an
immature (first year - all dark) Bald Eagle.
And a second report of a Waterthrush from the coast?
I wonder if perhaps we were looking in the wrong direction for the irruption
this year. Rather than high numbers of northern finches, we seem to have at
least a small number of oddball neo-tropical migrants instead.
