Purple and Gold in Columbia

(No, I am not talking about the LSU or Benedict College basketball teams in
the subject line)

Hooray for the cold weather! After enjoying the large number of
American Goldfinches and the first Chipping Sparrows at our feeders since
last summer, I sorted through several colorful House Finches, the males
ranging in color from yellow-orange to rose red to purple, hoping to turn
one into a male Purple Finch. Then, up in a large Red Oak, was the first
Purple Finch for our new yard list, and the first we've had at the feeders
here in the Irmo side of Columbia, SC, for several years. Gorgeous!

Bring on the Pine Siskins, Evening Grosbeaks, and other goodies.

Gosh, only a couple of days ago, we had a beautiful Painted Lady butterfly
(probably an American Lady; I need to learn the difference!).

Last night, I even thought the Moon turned the color of Beaujolais Nouveau,
so I must have had too much to drink. ;^)
