Beaufort meeting

This is not the official report, but thought I would share some great
birding in spite of the cold, raw weather. Those who birded here on Harbor
Island put up with bitter cold, gale force winds. But, there were at least
4 Great Black-backed Gulls and 1 (possibly 2) Lesser Black-backed Gulls. A
Marbled Godwit showed up, several Piping Plovers, 2 Horned Grebes and a
male Red-breasted Merganser also gave an appearance.

Our trip to the Savannah NWR found 2 Baltimore Orioles, several Stilt
Sandpipers, and with the thousands of teal and other common ducks, there
was a pair of Canvasbacks. The water levels were high near the wildlife
drive so the ducks were within easy scoping distance. The Great Horned Owl
is back on the nest near the entrance. There were Red-tailed Hawks
everywhere - and we watched a pair of Bald Eagles.

Those that went to Bear Island and Donnelley, Spring Island and Parris
Island, also saw some good birds - sorry we couldn't go on every trip. The
total birds recorded was a little over 150 - not bad for such terrible
weather.
Hope all of you are thawed out by now.
