Kestrels

Hi folks.
Curiously enough, two days after I asked the question about Kestrels, (I
still want to call them Sparrow Hawks) I saw one doing that strange
hovering they do on the Interstate median between Swannanoa and exit 55,
near Oteen. He (or she) did not scare up anything and flared off, but
they are the only bird I know that does that hover, I think called
"waiting on". I believe Falcons are supposed to do something like this,
but have little experience with them, so am not sure.
Saw Barn Swallows at Spruce Pine Friday, and today at Brevard. The ones
at SP seemed to have fledgelings with them. Do they double brood, as I
have seen them at Black Mountain with young in the nest at this time, as
a matter of fact I raised a pair of them several summers ago which were
subsequently turned over to a recovery specialist. They were in the nest
in late June. (The nest was destroyed by campers. It was hard giving them
over to a stranger...)
For the person asking about Catbirds, I have one near my yard, probably
nesting in my parents' "wilderness". Have seen several of them here, even
on Mt. Pisgah, along with the Chestnut Sided Warblers and Red Breasted
Grosbeaks.
