Bald Eagles, RFI New Providence Is

I took a quick turn by the local lakes, ponds, and ditches at lunch looking for
migrant waterfowl. The results were somewhat disappointing. The only non
year-round residents were a group of 11 Ruddy Ducks on the smaller of the two
lakes in the Lochmere subdivision in Cary. NSCU dairy, Lake Wheeler, Greenview,
West Lake ponds & the 1010 pond were empty. This is about 80 birds and 4
species less than the same date last year. Maybe next week...

Lake Wheeler did provide views of 2 adult Bald Eagles. Both birds were perched
on snags or small sandbars in the shallow end of the lake. One had a nice sized
fish.

If anyone has been birding on New Providence Island, Bahamas recently and has
suggestions on where to go, please drop me a line. We are scheduled to be there
for a day in early November. I'm going to try for the pintails on the Paradise
Island pond, check out the bot garden, and look for the finches at the liquor
store in downtown Nassau mentioned in the ABA guide (I can hear it now: Why are
you standing around in front of the liquor store? Oh, just waiting for some
birds that live here to show up... ). I'll welcome any other suggestions!

Thanks in advance!
