Have had both Ruby and Golden-crowned Kinglets in the yard this fall. More
G-cr. this year than last year.
This morning watched as 2 male G-c's were battling near the feeders,
began about 20 ft. up and came straight down, heads together, to the ground.
Was the nicest look I've ever had at the bright orange crowns of the males.
Yesterday, right outside the window was a female G-cr., had nice looks
at her yellow crown, but also seemed to be a red area at the back of the
crown-stripe when she raised it. Looked in a few field guides, including
Sibley, and none mention this. Could have been the light playing tricks on
me, but it sure didn't seem like it.
