I spent about two hours at the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge today
and there were a lot of raptors present near the Creef Cut maintenance area
off of Highway 64. In just a short time the following raptors were seen. I
think if more time could be spent there, other species would turn up.
Bald Eagle - 1
Northern Harrier - at least 12
Red-tailed Hawk - at least 8
American Kestrel - 3
Peregrine Falcon - 1
Although none have been reported this year, Short-eared owls are known to
winter here. There are several other species of owls that occur here also,
Great Horned, Barred, Eastern Screech, and potentially Northern Saw-whet.
