bird encounters/camera question

yesterday, ate lunch in an RTP parking lot while my first Brown Creeper of
season ate his lunch on pine tree in front of me, and
today driving home in Chapel Hill a Cooper's Hawk flew directly
at front windshield before swerving upward at last moment,
realizing there was a car between him and whatever he was after.
Quite a sight!!

now, real question and purpose of post! (for any camera buffs):

Am wondering if those single-use pocket cameras that I see
everywhere are worthless for nature photography or useful for
occasional shots(tired of dragging along a bulky camera
and lens on casual walks). If useful, which models are best,
or are generic ones just as good as name-brand ones??? Thanks
for any suggestions
