Sandhill Cranes

Folks:
At about 1:30 PM today, I was in the Mills River/ Horse Shoe area of
Henderson County near the intersection of Ladson & Schoolhouse Rds. I was
working the roadside for sparrows when I observed 4 Sandhill Cranes land in
a cut corn field behind a treeline. I was able to get very good scope views
of the 4 birds. Three birds had the full red cap and lores, and the 4th had
a partial red cap. The plumage appeared to be the same on all birds. I
observed the birds for about 15 minutes, obtained good video footage of the
birds on the ground and in the air. The birds then departed heading
southeast.
The birds were gaining altitude as they flew southeast, but I still
wanted you to know about the sighting.
                                                                Best
regards,
                                                                Wayne
